Dringender Aufruf zum Schutz von MenschenrechtsaktivistInnen in Sri Lanka: Wo ist Pattani Razeek? +++ Urgent appeal to protect Human Rights Activists in Sri Lanka: Where is Pattani Razeek? +++ Pax Romana

(English below) Wie viele andere internationale  Menschenrechtsorganisationen legt auch die katholische Organisation Pax Romana dem UN-Menschenrechtsrat und anderen Institutionen des UN-Menschenrechtssystem seit Jahren schon Dokumentationen zu den – so Pax Romana selbst – “weit verbreiteten und zahlreichen Angriffen, Bedrohungen und Einschränkungen” vor, denen MenschenrechtsaktivisInnen in Sri Lanka ausgesetzt sind. Da die UN bisher jedoch – so wiederum Pax Romana  – in ihren Versuchen “gescheitert” sind, “wirkungsvoll tätig zu werden”, um “greifbaren Einfluss zur Verhinderungen weiteren Missbrauchs” zu erzielen, hat die Organisation die UN in diesem Jahr aufgerufen, “unverzüglich aktiv” zu werden: “zum Schutz von Menschenrechts-VerteidigerInnen und NGOs, die den ethnischen, religiösen oder sprachlichen Minderheiten Sri Lankas angehören”. Wir dokumentieren das allgemeine Statement von Pax Romana und eine zweite Erklärung, in der die Organisation beispielhaft nach dem Schicksal eines einzelnen Menschenrechtsaktivisten fragt: Pattani Razeek, leitender Mitarbeiter des Community Trust Funds (CTF) und Mitglied des Exekutivkomitees des Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA, http://www.forum-asia.org/), entführt am 11. Februar 2010 entführt.  +++  Like many other international Human Rights Organisations the catholic Organisation Pax Romana since years provides the UN-Human Rights Council as well as other institutions of the UN-Human Rights-System with extensive documentations on the – as Pax Romana says – “widespread and numerous cases of attacks, threats ansd restrictions to the Human Rights Defenders” in Sri Lanka. Because the UN – again Pax Romana – “has failed to take effective action to have a tangible effect on the prevention of further abuses”, the organisation this year ”urges the Human Rights Council to take immediate action to protect thos Human Rights Defenders and NGOs who belong to the ethnic, religious and linguistic mionorities” of Sri Lanka. We document the general Statement of Pax Romana and a second assertion, by which the organisation exemplary asks after the destiny of a certain Human Rights Defender: Pattani Razeek, leading member of  Community Trust Funds (CTF) and of the Executive Committee of the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA, http://www.forum-asia.org/), kidnapped on February 11th, 2010.

The full name of this organisation is International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs-Pax Romana, it was created in 1947 and is an umbrella-organisation for different catholic initiatives in more than 54 countries from every continent, as well as several contact groups and individual members. The international headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland.
