 Jagath Dias: Immer in der Mitte des Geschehens   +++  Always at the center of the scene

Im Wortlaut/Full text: Statement Lady Ashton

Im Wortlaut/Full text: (deutsch) EU-Parlament 12.05.2011   +++   (engl.) http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?type=MOTION&reference=B7-2011-0325&language=EN

Dem Europäischen Parlament lag ein deutlich schärferer Antrag grüner und linker Abgeordneter vor, der auf Initiative der konservativen Mehrheit dann aber erheblich abgemildert wurde. Unter dem Titel “Tamil lobby defeated in EU-Parliament” heben der srilankischen Regierung verbundene Stellen auch den deutschen Abgeordneten Thomas Mann (CDU) hervor: “Representing the Majority European Peoples Party (EPP) German MEP Thomas Mann said in February 2011 he ‘was in Sri Lanka as a member of the South Asian Delegation and saw just how much effort was being made to progressively deal with the post conflict issues like removing land mines and facilitating displaced people to return to their homes. The Government’s readiness to cooperate, desire to integrate minorities and assure proper democratic and human rights standards implies that there will be a valid future for this country’” (u.a. www.srilankafoundation.lk). Verglichen mit den Bildern des Channel 4-Films erübrigt sich an dieser Stelle jeder Kommentar (English version below).

The European Parliament had the choice to adopt a much clearer proposal brought in by green and leftist Members of Parliament, but this proposal than was strongly moderated by the conservative majority. Under the title “Tamil lobby defeated in EU-Parliament” authorities connected to the Srilankan Government  highlighted (beside others) explicitly the German Member of Parliament Thomas Mann (CDU): “Representing the Majority European Peoples Party (EPP) German MEP Thomas Mann said in February 2011 he ‘was in Sri Lanka as a member of the South Asian Delegation and saw just how much effort was being made to progressively deal with the post conflict issues like removing land mines and facilitating displaced people to return to their homes. The Government’s readiness to cooperate, desire to integrate minorities and assure proper democratic and human rights standards implies that there will be a valid future for this country” (u.a. www.srilankafoundation.lk).  Compared withe the Channel 4-film, no further comment is needed.
